HTC makes Windows Mobile handsets. The problem is that Windows Mobile is slow to respond to the competition (iPhone). HTC’s solution is to develop additional features on the Windows Mobile platform resulting in a GUI that though not exactly as pretty as the iPhone GUI can, nevertheless, pass as an alternative. That was the HTC Touch, a phone which did rather well in the market despite not making any major waves.

HTC is back on the innovation board with a new Windows Mobile user interface code-named HTC Manila, version 2.0 of the HTC Touch TouchFLO interface. It’s slow-running at the moment. HTC will probably have to upgrade the processor and memory to accommodate the features of the new UI. Other requirements are a VGA screen and 2 DLL files.

Note: while viewing the video (below), just imagine that icons are moving at thrice the speed and you’ll get the idea about how HTC “Manila” measures up with OS X.
