Kindle e-book reader doing amazingly well

New Products, e-Book Reader

Despite Steve Jobs’ Amazon-Kindle bashing (because people don’t read anymore!), Amazon’s Jeff Bezos seems to be satisfied with how the Kindle is selling. He reports that in terms of demand, the Kindle is “outpacing our expectations”. In fact, the “heavy customer demand” for the Kindle is so high that a notice on the Kindle page says that they’re temporarily out of stock. Yay, I’m glad that there are actually some people who buy the Kindle and use it to read. On the other hand, there is a difference between exceeded expectations and how much money Amazon is making off the Kindle. I can see why this device isn’t exactly a big hit for most consumers because it can’t play music or video games or provide hours of mind-numbing entertainment. Because, you know, reading is an activity that requires using your brain, and a lot of people don’t really like doing that.
