I wonder why Nokia is even considering Windows Mobile with Symbian, still the world’s best mobile OS, working very well for them. John Starkweather, Microsoft’s mobile communications business international marketing director, says he is in talks with Noia about possibly bringing Windows Mobile to some of its phones. Nokia not only uses Symbian OS in many of its phones, it is also a near 50% owner of the company.

“They obviously have significant investments in Symbian but there are a lot of places where we have significant synergies and we would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile,” said Starkweather.

Symbian dominates the smartphone market with 67% of the pie with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile and Windows CE combining for only 14%.
