The new 5 megapixel camera phone from Samsung marks “the completion of its exclusive ‘Ultra Edition’ series of handsets.” This sounds like a eulogy for the Samsung Ultra line, but let us all hope for the best. The phone will be officially launched at the Mobile World Congress ‘08, but the salient features are already very impressive.

Samsung really went all out for the Soul, cramming a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus 4x digital zoom ad a LED flash and a 7.2Mbps HSDPA in the slider. The Soul, apparently does not play video, thought the 2.2-inch 16m-color QVGA screen is quite nice. Form factor-wise, it has a passing resemblance to Nokia’s 6500 slider. That glassy control panel below the screen houses the Magical Touch by DaCP, a user interface that promises a more direct approach to navigation.

A list of specs follows.
