Mobile World Congress, Barcelona - The new Sony-Ericsson W980 mobile phone doesn’t really look like a mobile phone, thanks to what the company is calling the “Walkman on Top”. The controls and display of the Walkman is placed in the front of the mobile phone, so you don’t have to open the handset if you want to switch tracks or check out what’s playing. Hence the “on top” part. The W980 also comes with 8GB of internal memory (not bad!), built-in stereo speakers, and an FM-transmitter, allowing users to share tunes through an FM radio or car stereo. Finally, unlike the crappy earphones that comes with the iPod, Sony-Ericsson threw in a Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-77 headset for clear quality sound and hands-free call-answering. No word on pricing yet as you won’t be seeing the W980 til the third quarter of this year. Boo!
