ONDA VX757 Landing Soon

China MP4, China PMP, New Products

Not long after ONDA dropped the widescreen VX747, it’s also introducing a tastier-looking successor, the VX757. This new PMP has a rather odd display configuration: 16:10 aspect ration. We know wide screen is 16:9, but what is 16:10? Obviously ONDA has some explaining why they are supporting the same aspect ratio as Apple Cinema HD, and we’d get you all the juicy details once it comes in. The details for now are as follows: 3.0-inch touch screen like the VX747, RM / RMVB/ APE / FLAC, support for 32GB SD card.

Design-wise, we love seeing the iPhone-like home button in lieu of the Meizu M8-like keys.

Apple Cinema Displays are 16:10. It gives you a few more pixels for controls or in the case for the Mac, the menu bar.

This is a terrible product (or perhaps it was just the supplier).

I ordered one up in advance of Christmas, because I was going to be away over Christmas.

When I opened it, it worked fine to start with. However, I couldn’t load the software for converting movies, and it wouldn’t recognise any format I could find. When I finally got the siftware disc to load, it was all in Chinese, with no English language option. So not much use for movies.

Also, it just refused to mount as a disc on my MacBook! Nothing! So Ihave to boot into WIndows just to load songs on my PMP.

Then it started playing up. It wouldn’t switch off. Every time I turned it off, it turned itself straight back on, like magic. Even on “Auto-off” it would turn off after the set time, then straight back on!

So I sent it back to the supplier (PMPUK, AKA KayBay AKA David Kay) who swore blind it never played up for him. I said I wasn’t happy, and would he he trade me up to a higher model (I’d pay the difference), but he wanted a hefty admin fee because he swore I was lying, I was trying to con him, etc, etc. So I actually had to pay postage to get my old faulty device back. He was grossly insulting.

Even after paying the postage, it took him two weeks to get around to sending it back to me.

Since I got it back, it has been switching off OK (I don’t know if he did something to it, or swapped it for another one). And that seemed OK to start with, but now it just suddenly switches off in the middle of a song - no reason, full battery, just random!

Its rubbish. Stay away. And stay away from that supplier - he doesn’t understand the concept of customer service.
