Archos Gen5 PMPs just got better, way better. With several press releases, the French PMP manufacturer has made available GPS feature on the Archos 605. Once a rumor, it’s now official and Archos didn’t even have to make hardware changes. According to Archos, the 605’s 4.3-inch screen is unmatched by other GPS devices in the market. “With more than 50 times the hard drive size, twice the screen resolution, and similar pricing as stand-alone GPS navigation products, the ARCHOS 605 GPS is the ultimate navigation and entertainment device.” The GPS sells for $129.99 separately or comes bundled with a 30GB Archos 605 for $399.99.
TVPortation is Archos breakthrough technology that convert a portable device into portable TVs. It’s available for the 605 and 705 WiFi Archos PMPs. It uses the Archos TV+ as media server. Henri Crohas, ARCHOS founder and CEO claims, “The ARCHOS TV+ is the first home entertainment device that combines a home TV streaming server with a DVR, giving TV, movie and music fans everything they need to stay entertained and connected both inside and away from the home.”
Through a free firmware update, 605 and 705 users will be able to support Adobe® Flash® 9, Windows Media Video® (WMV) 9 and ON2 video formats. This will open up almost all videos on the Internet for Archos WiFi PMP users, and it’s free. Plug-ins for Web TV and Radio have also been made available for $19.99.
Last but not least, Archos and Paramount has signed an agreement allowing Archos users to watch movies like “Cloverfield,” “Shooter,” and “Beowulf” on their portable players. In North America and Europe, Paramount content will be preloaded to ARCHOS TV+ WiFi Digital Video Recorder (DVR) so you can get movies directly on your Archos WiFi portables.

why cant archos give the gwn 4 owners a firmware upgrade to.the gen 5 i own the nokia internet tablet n800 its better than the archos all the upgrades are free and they dont charge you for internet radio or a flash web browser i can watch you tube and listen to nternet radio archos content portal sucks too its all french companys thefrencch did not support us in irack they suck they are too cheap to give me a lousy flash upgrade after i spent 400,00 on the gen 4

archos is ignoring all their faithful customers who bought the gen 4 and the 705 wi fi they are focousing it seems on only one product why do they make alot of products and then dump them as if they didnt exist archos hates american customers their content portal is full of french companyies that we cant understand i hate french products archos is not the most advanced company that you think it is they cant even give the gen 704 wifi customers a lousy flash upgrade the nokia internet tablet comes with everything included except the navigation which cost extra

why are you people getting excited about the 605 wifi the nokia n800 is a better product they dont charge you for plugins except for the gps archos is ignoring all theirb other customers we exist too archos content portalis all in a foreign language they are thw lowest in customer SUPPORT WHICH IS IN FRANCE they hate americans they hate their customers

Nokia N800 doesn’t play H264, Mpeg2 nor DivX and WMV at DVD resolutions. So it’s not fair to say that the Nokia doesn’t have plugins, when in fact the Nokia does not do what the Archos plugins or the basic Archos does, which is play every single video format you can ind on the Internet, and stream all those formats from the Internet.

if archos is so great why cant they acknowledge that the gen 4 customers exist too i spent 400.00 and cant get a lousy flash upgrade the nokia n800 is still better it suits my needs can you tell me why they cant give us any upgrades like the gen 5 or are they incompetent to do so they want me to spend another 400.00 just to get flash support i would rather buy the asus windows xp model for the same price archos still sucks as far as i am concerned

Archos 7…what a lousy piece of hardware. Very expensive and to play movies, you need to throw more money at it. Need some cables…throw more money at it…If the web site worked for the Archos 7…you might be able to get these item. The site has been “coming soon” for a month now. I have a large paper weight now tha play music, thats about it. The Wi Fi is very week and disconnects without warning. Some web sites won’t load. Most links are small on a reqular web page, and now they are too small to hit on this low accurate touch screen. Just not a good surfing machine.
The widgets won’t find the info they are supposed to. “not available” in most cases. Stocks are available amost 24/7 this day and age.
I could go on and on.
Just run from the Archos 7, as fast as you can.

I have one of these I picked it up with the DvR dock for about 100 USD. I then bought a second dock for 21.95. I added a 16gb sd card to it and I love it. I had the n800 then the n810 While they are nice units in their own right, They do not do the media sharing all that well. I have 4.8TB (Yes, it is TB not GB) of media downloaded from the past 10 years (remember Napster?) and I have been able to watch 98% of it with out any problem. To say this can play every codec in the world would be a lie. It cant. But a hell of a lot more than the n800 could and this can play flash video so much better as well.
