T-Mobile and O2 are willing to forgo the upfront iPhone pricing for premium plans. For a 89 euro plan, T-Mobile German subscribers could take home an iPhone 3G for one Euro. It’s a great deal for heavy data users, not so smart if you’re just into the iPhone for the fashion statement because the lowest 29 Euro plan prices the iPhone 3G at 169 Euros, much more than the $199 the iPhone 3G 8GB will go for officially. O2 iPhone will go as low as free if you sign up for the £45 (8GB) and £75 (16GB) plans. I’ve always wondered whether the 16GB version should be offered by Apple at all. I know with the iPhone 2.0 software and SDK, many users will begin to think what they have in their hands is an actual computer, but who would want to put all that information (16GB worth) in a device that is so obviously vulnerable to theft?
