What’s interesting about the new rumor that China ma get its iPhone (legally) after all is that Apple have ceased manufacturing the original iPhone and will have to serve China Unicom’s 125 million GSM subscribers with the 3G version. Special Administrative Regions Macau and Hong Kong, both 3G ready, already have their distributor announced. If China Unicom actually closes the deal, the mainlanders will have to go with 2.5G speeds at maximum and use iPhone’s WiFi for faster data speeds. I’m sure the Chinese won’t mind though. The iPhone now only goes for a fraction of its former price. Besides, iPhone 2.0 has Chinese character recognition. built-in iPhone’s 3G might be wasted in China but I’m sure Apple won’t include that feature for nothing.According to rumor, iPhone 3G will come to China in August.

I bet China customers would be thrilled to be able to pay an unnecessary monthly 3G fee.
