Apple, Mobile Phone, iphone clone, sciphone

The Cect HiPhone is the most popular iPhone clone brand right now but a pretender has just arrived that might be able to successfully challenge its dominance. For one thing, the SciPhone model i68 is pretty damn close hardware-wise to what the iPhone looks like. The photo you see above is no ordinary rendering; that is actually what the phone looks like. For a more realistic view, you can watch the video after the break.

Specs of the Sciphone (pronounced Sky Phone) include a quadband GSM connectivity, 3.2-inch touchscreen with both finger and stylus input, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth (!!), Fm tuner and a G-Sensor for flick navigation. The demo video below shows only a changing of wallpapers when the Sciphone is flicked but it should also be able to change track by flicking.

Hey y’all! I see a lot of you are having trouble troubleshooting your Sciphones…

I just purchased a Sciphone i68 off of Ebay myself and truth be told I’m really enjoying it. It is a cheap version of an iphone without the smooth ease of use and it does take many “ok”s and “back”s to get around but… if you don’t mind spending a few extra seconds it is a great all-in-one media storage. That being said, I’ve only had it for a week and there are quite a few downsides if you want excellent video and camera abilities. These were the 2 features I was looking forward to using but I’m not sure if I’ll be utilizing them as much as I would with a real iphone. Also, I was hoping for the expandable keyboard feature (when you rotate the phone to horizontal use) but, sadly, the keyboard is only available in the one orientation, however, the sensitivity is pretty good and I don’t find it very hard to use. If you’ve got “sausage fingers” I would definitely NOT recommend this phone if you like to text!

    Here are a few things I’ve learned…

    Transferring Files:

Connect your phone to your computer with the provided USB cable.

Your computer (if it is connected to the internet) should automatically download the necessary programs to run your Sciphone.

The phone will light up with 3 options:
Mass Storage, Webcam, and PictBridge (I’ve only delved into the Mass Storage feature but… that’s what you’ll be using most)

Press Mass Storage and your E Drive folder should pop up automatically. Choose “Open Folder”

***if it doesn’t open automatically, open your My Computer folder and choose the E Drive. The phone will show an E and F Drive and you can upload files to both but the E Drive is your MicroSD card with all the “mass” storage and the F drive has very limited storage and will not let you upload even 1 song or picture so if that’s one of your problems… try switching drives and go from there***

Under your E Drive you have multiple options to upload your files:
Audio - this folder is for small audio files such as voice recordings etc…
E Book - this folder will store all text documents making them available for you to read on your Sciphone
Java - haven’t used yet but… I assume this is for Java applications you download from the internet to use on your phone
Mp3 - MUSIC! Drag and drop your music files here. I’ve only uploaded about 100 songs but once they are uploaded you can use them as your ringtone or listen to it using the (inappropriately loud in my opinion) speakers or the special ear-buds that should have been provided. I transfer directly from my iTunes folder - MP3s work great but I know the phone will accept other types of files as well…
Photos - Drag and drop your photos here. I think most photos will have to be re-sized to properly fit and look nice on your phone. I haven’t quite figured this out yet but when I do I’ll let you know… unless someone else finds out first!
Video - you must convert your videos before transferring them to the phone. I use aTube catcher and grab videos off of YouTube. I haven’t found the right type of video files that the Sciphone likes yet but I’ve tried a few MP4s and they have all come up “invalid video file” I do see that some of the sample videos the phone provides are “3gp” format so you might want to try that. However, the videos I’ve tried to put into the phone are there so the Video file is the correct destination.
Received - this is the storage for your Blutooth (and I assume MMS) transfers. I do not have an internet package so I haven’t received any MMS messages but I have successfully transferred some pix through blutooth.

    Changing Ringtone and Ring Style:

Find PROFILES and choose GENERAL and choose Customize
Choose - Tone Setup - then SIM1 - from there you can scroll down to and “Empty” slot and choose from a list of your downloaded songs and set it as your ringtone
Choose - Alert Type and you can choose from Vibrate and Ring and the standard combinations of both

    SIM card Issues!!!
EMERGENCY CALL ONLY - your SIM card is probably in wrong. I put mine in upside down the first time I tried to use it. Change the orientation with the metal side toward the inside of the phone and the end with a chip out of the corner up… Metal to the back and the chipped corner to the left and the phone should read your SIM.

    File Transfer Issues!!!

I’ve had a few problems transferring files where I try it and they show up on my computer as being on the phone’s memory cards but I can’t find them on the phone itself. I would try making sure they are in the correct folder and drive to start and then from there… I’m not quite sure. Turn the phone off and start again maybe?

Please let me know if this helps… then when I figure more stuff out, I’ll let y’all know!

    GOOD LUCK :)
