Details of Acer’s Eee PC beater have surfaced and they are too tempting to pass - though we usually cover the portable devices with multimedia entertainment focus. Screen, chassis and processor (1.6GHz Atom N270) are the same in all three models. What I find interesting is the OS-storage combo and the pretty even pricing between versions:
All come with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, 3-cell L-Ion with option for a 6-cell one. Acer’s Aspire One series goes head to head with manufacturing rival Dell’s mini-Inspiron.Obviously, these two ultraportable notebooks leave the Eee PC in the dust in the looks department. Though the original Ee PC 701 may be the undisputed champion in its price range, Asus may need to rethink its strategy in the $500 price range.

I pre-ordered the One for 379$ canadian.
The 9inch EEE goes from 560 to 650$ canadian.
Its not even close in price.
My wife wont go for a 6oo$ laptop when we have one already as well as a desktop.
$379 is more an impulse buy price.
Its the same as a game console.
Why would someone get something so small and then choose a movable parts HD instead of a low consumption SSD? Battery life, heat and power consumption seem to be more important in this form factor than storage size.
Why would you choose an 8 year old OS like XP and the malware, spyware, trojans, lohans and virus that come along with it?
My folks run Linux that my brother in law installed and they are both happy and safe when online.
