Jointech has done what One Laptop Per Child has promised but failed to do - mass-produce a laptop that will retail for $100 or below. At $99, Jointech’s Jpro Jl7100, is one cheap mini notebook or netbook. Though reading the Jl7100 specs make you think of a smartphone instead of a laptop, $99 retail is difficult to argue with. Heck, the OLPC XO wasn’t any better. It has a 7-inch 800 x 480 screen has WiFi and weighs only 680 grams. It is powered by a 400MHz CPU and runs on Windows CE with 64MB of RAM and 64MB of ROM though you can insert up to 4GB of SD cards to save files. It’s a well-featured sub-notebook on connectors with 3 USB ports. It even has a stereo speaker. Now, we’re not informed if it comes pre-loaded with productivity software but it fully supports Microsoft Office and it’s probably the only netbook out there with preloaded Internet Explorer. Come to think of it, the Ji7100 supports video, audio, text, even audio recording. Think of it as a PMP with pocket PC capabilities, WiFi and a near-to-fullsize keyboard. The Jpro Jl7100 is also available wholesale at, presumably, reduced price at Alibaba. Links below.

I’ve been googling this and it appears we’re 3 days late on the news. Still no reviews of any kind.

If you read the pdf data sheet, you’ll see that $99 is the price if you buy 1000 pieces. Sample price is $249 for a model without WiFi ($269 with WiFi) + $15 for MS Office + $7 for Media Player.
5.5 hours of battery life and 4 hours of playback time is also nothing special.
