ONDA has a spanking new touch screen PMP in the works. The photo above indicates an Apple-like user interface using a Macbook-style dock system. The VX525 UI will be Flash based and looks sweet enough for a little Apple-like hype. Chip manufacturer Actions (they’ve made all these iPod Touch and iPhone clones possible) will have a special processor ready for the VX525 and it will be far better than the best Rockchip in the market.

iPhone firmware 2.0.2 is turning out to be a real pain as yet another flaw has been discovered. This time around, it’ll allow others to gain access to your private info even if the phone is locked. Just by selecting Emergency Call when the passcode screen appears and double-tapping the Home button, other people will be able to see all your contacts in your Favorites and their corresponding details bypassing the passcode security protection. However, there seems to be a temporary solution to this issue by assigning a different function for the Home button which will render the aforementioned procedure ineffective.
Nevertheless, this crack should have never been there in the first place. Considering how Apple has set itself apart from the rest of the pack for its stringent security measures, someone must have fallen asleep when this was being taken up during a meeting. With so many issues plaguing 2.0.2, is this a sign of things to come in future firmware updates? I definitely hope not.

An iPhone commercial in the UK has been pulled out by authorities because of misleading information. The iPhone does not support Flash and Java and therefore, says the UK Advertising Standard Authority, the iPhone TV spot that claims that “all the parts of the internet are on the iPhone” should not be shown again - not unless Apple actually puts Flash and Java support in the iPhone. Check out the commercial below.

Genius, the ubiquitous tech brand, has introduced the MP-300. It’s quite the generic-looking PMP with touch-sensitive keypads but because of the solid branding we’re more than willing to take a second look. The screen is 2.4 inches with 320 x 240 pixels. It plays MPEG-4 compatibility AVI (Xvid), MP3, WMA and WAV. Other features include an FM tuner, speaker, mic and microSD slot. Only the 2GB version was announcedwith a rather risque price of 69 euros ($101). The MP-300 was already made available in India last month.

The 2.4-inch YP Q1 player from Samsung will be available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB in white, black, silver or pink. The silver color looks like gray to me and I’m glad Samsung thought of makign a gray portable device. If the Samsung Q1 has a bigger screen I’d be almost sold but the paltry MPEG4, WMV video support will have to be enjoyed in a cellphpone screen. It also supports MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, JPEG, GIF, PNG. It will have FM RDS, a mic and will be compatible with DNSe 3.0.

The GP2X WIZ portable system is now available at Dynamism for $179.99. Gamepark made the Wiz a lot more compact than the previous GP2X. The new GP2X Wiz is the usual emulator portable gamer with NES, SNES and Genesis support and playing MPEG4, XVID, DIVX and MP3, OGG, WAV as well. The WIZ features a 2.8-inch QVGA OLED screen an ARM9 533 MHz processor with 64MB of RAM. It’s very handy to have with a calculator, planner, alarm, world Time, memo pad, and voice recorder. Dynamism will ship the Gamepark GP2X Wiz with 12 embedded games.

Everyone probably knows by now the potential of the iPhone/iPod Touch to become a very formidable gaming device, but one thing that’s holding it back from reaching new heights is the lack of dedicated gaming controls. Well, this where the iControlPad will come in handy. It seeks to address that specific problem by coming up with a case that’s equipped with a d-pad and four standard buttons mimicking a typical game console configuration. While there already a handful of emulator apps supporting this new gizmo in the jailbroken world, it is yet to be recognized and adapted by apps available in the App Store.
Despite its primitive appearance, it does look like a promising innovation which can be used to tap a whole new segment of the market the iPhone/iPod Touch has yet to reach. Unfortunately, while I do wish that legal apps will support this in the future, something tells me that the big honchos in Apple don’t share the same sentiment.

China.org brought us updates of the cutie iPhone factory girl who accidentally forgot to delete the “test photos” she made on the new iPhone 3G camera. I don’t like how the English-language Chinese site described iPhone girl, though: The photos show a round-faced Chinese girl dressed in pink, striped uniform, smiling and making a “V for Victory” gesture in what seems like an assembly line. She is still nameless to the world, however, and I almost feel bad that she is likely to remain nameless if only to prevent potential stalkers from causing needless her needless anxiety.

Kevin Rose had more leaks on the 4th generation iPod Nano. He says Apple is going to announce it 9th of September, which is just two weeks away. The iPod Nano 4G will have silicon cases waiting for it after Apple makes it official. An analyst pointed out that new iPods are usually announced September.

A UCI or user created interface made by a developer that goes by the name Coconut imitates the Apple iPod and iTune’s Cover Flow user interface. He’s now using this Cover Flow-like UI on his COWON D2 and constantly improves the interface. Coconut’s version of Cover Flow responds to stylus input. I don’t know if Apple should be worried. If Kevin Rose is correct that Apple will come out with a iTunes 8.0 soon, maybe a refresh of the Cover Flow is in order just so Apple can distance itself from independent programmers taking advantage of the open source codes of some device manufacturers.
