iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update might have worked for some, but it seems that it apparently does quite the opposite for others. Reports are coming in that instead of improving pone functionality, the update actually kills the iPhone’s ability to make calls in a 3G network. Kind of ironic since the whole point of the 3G iPhone is to be able to use it in a 3G network. One frustrated user brought his iPhone to an AT&T store to have it checked, and when the SIM was swapped out, it apparently fixed the problem.
This issue isn’t considered widespread yet, but as more reports slowly trickle in, I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of people that are irate with Apple slowly swells to a greater figure. This is just another reason why it would be wise to hold off on updating your iPhone’s firmware at the moment until a more stable, and reliable one becomes available (or a new jailbreak that can fix the problem is released).
