The new 4G Nano may have been the highlight of the show, but the equally delicious new iPod Touch deserves as much attention as its smaller sibling. The display is pretty much the same, but the case is brand new, contoured, and thinner than ever. The 2G iPod Touch also now features hardware volume controls and built-in speakers both of which are integrated into the design seamlessly. Apple also has included built-in Nike+ support, the new iTunes Genius features, and some minor tweaks to the UI.

Ok, so no 3G and GPS on the 2G iPod Touch as previously rumored, but the improvements are all very much appreciated. The addition of hardware volume controls makes it easier to use without fiddling around with the UI, and we need not explain how the inclusion of the built-in speaker and Nike+ receiver add a lot to its functionality. Some might argue that it might have been better if Apple completely redesigned the 2G Touch’s exterior, but personally, I still like the stainless steel rear case, and as they say; why fix it if it ain’t broken, right?
If you’re planning to get one, the following are the SRP for the 2G iPod Touch: 8GB - $229, 16GB - $299, and 32GB - $399. So as you can see, Apple also failed to meet our 64GB expectation as well, but we reckon 2009 will be the year that theyll release such a model.

What a bunch of hogwash. The differences in the 1st g ipod touch and the 2nd g ipod touch are not impressive. Sell the baloney to someone else. No wonder apple is able to get away with thier arrogant tactics e.g. releasing software updates and not telling the consumer what it consists off.

The 8GB model is $229, not $299.
