While we expected firmware 2.1 to pose as a problem for jailbreakers, we didn’t expect iTunes 8 to become a problem. Well, Apple seems to have found a way for iTunes 8 to detect tampered firmware and block it from loading in the application. As a result, those who have pwned their firmware can no longer load it to their iPhone/iPod Touch thus putting to a screeching halt any attempts at jailbreaking/pwning any iPhone or iPod Touch at the moment.
While this is undeniable a setback to the jailbreaking front, and an iPhone 2.1 jailbreak particularly, the DevTeam has these reassuring words to say to all their followers:
The nice thing about iTunes decisions is that we can provide you with patches to counter them. We have one such patch already for Mac iTunes 8 for iPod touch. We’ll be working out the full suite of patches for all the combinations over the next week.
Words of hope indeed, but are people still up for it? I mean, honestly, I’ve upgraded to 2.1 and haven’t thought of jailbreaking anytime soon with all the various apps I can choose and play around with available at the App Store. Yeah, I know. Some like, some don’t; but how about guys? What’s your take on jailbreaking nowadays?

I just bought my 3G(have not had a cell phone in like 4 years) and I am very interested to see what this smartphone is capable of once it’s “out of the box” so to speak. I have the 2.1 upgrade and itunes 8, i didn’t realize that there is no setup yet to hack into it(been trying all night). My failed attempts have really made me wonder, what is on the other side?
