TmoNews has the apparent news on the first Google Android phone to be launching on T-Mobile. (Isn’t it September 23rd already, so why hasn’t T-Mobile officially announced the phone?). TmoNews, however, has the confirmed leaks and now we know the Android phone will be dubbed T-Mobile G1. It’s a touchscreen phone with a slideout keyboard. The hands-on photo from rizzn.com shows a beautiful device that will do well to the crowd of tech lovers tired of looking at the over-a-year-old iPhone hardware. Specs include a 3.1 megapixel camera, WiFi, A-GPS and 3G available to those in areas serviced by T-Mobile 3G. The phone will have quick access to Maps (including satellite, traffic, street views), Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk. Screen resolution is something different 480×320 or HVGA (half VGA). No pricing yet but T-Mobile will offer free G-Mail as an alternative to the BlackBerry service.
Update: price is an awesome $179 with contract. Say hello to the new iPhone Killer.

I hope it does better than your last “iPhone killer”. . .the Samsung Instinct. Did they ever release sales numbers for that thing? Oh yeah, they didn’t.
Regarding the “over-a-year-old” hardware, please don’t kid yourself. The G1 has a lot going for it, but its looks are not special, and it’s not going to make any rational person forget the iPhone, or the Blackberry Bold, etc.
