It looks like our earlier report was right on the money. iPhone firmware 2.2 is out now and ready for download via iTunes. Most, if not all, of the features that we reported that are included in this new firmware are still part of the package. For those who missed out on it, here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect to find in firmware 2.2:
- Enhanced Maps application: Google Street View, Public transit and walking directions, Display address of dropped pins, Share location via email
- Podcasts now included in iTunes
- Redesigned Safari Browser lay-out and improved performance and stability
- Enable/Disable text auto-correction in Keyboard Settings
- Mail Enhancements: Resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email, Improved formatting of wide HTML email
- Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages
- Pressing the Home button while on a different Home screen will bring you to the first Home screen
It’s a nice mix of new features and improvements, and it’s just in time so you can compare it with the performance of the Meizu M8. Anyway, now that everything’s official already with the iPhone firmware 2.2, the big question on everybody’s mind is; when will the iPhone 2.2 jailbreak be released?
