Industry News, Mobile Phone

It looks like HD recording capabilities for mobile phones may come sooner than expected. Aptina, a division of Micron who manufactures mobile phone camera sensors, has just announced the MT9P013 high resolution 5-megapixel sensor which is also able to record 720p HD video at 60fps and 5-megapixel video at 15fps. True, there are already 8-megapixel wonder phones out now, but how many can boast of HD video recording capabilities? Furthermore, it’s already going into production in January next year so we can more or less expect an HD-ready mobile phone out in 2009. Now that’s what I call a major upgrade to the already technologically advanced mobile phone camera.
