BlackBerry Storm shipments delayed to Firmware Security Flaw

Sat, Nov 22, 2008

Industry News, Mobile Phone

The BlackBerry Storm has just been made available through Verizon stores last Friday to an eagerly awaiting crowd. Unfortunately, those who ordered online may have to wait longer for their Storm to arrive. Due to a security flaw they discovered in the current OS version (4.7.0.82) installed, they had to downgrade the firmware to 4.7.0.65 on all available stock. Safe to say, this arduous process of doing this has pushed back the shipment of orders to a later date. Those who placed their order before noon of November 21 will get theirs shipped on the 25th while those who placed it in the afternoon of the said day will receive theirs on December 5. All orders placed on November 22 or later will not ship earlier than December 15.

It’s a real bummer, but at least it better to be safe than sorry, right? Nevertheless, it makes you wonder, what have they been doing all this time and it’s only now that they’ve managed to discover this security flaw? I think someone’s been slacking off in the QA department.
