CNBC Says Zune Phone in the Works

Microsoft, Zune

Microsoft is planning a phone, yes, and it has been given the code-name “Pink.” Sounds very interesting. Here’s what CNBC’s Jim Goldman says, “I’m hearing from a good source that Microsoft is ready to give a major facelift to the company’s Zune music player that could mean its evolution into a new smart phone from the company.” With Microsoft owning the maker of SideKick, the technology is not only possible but could become a game-changer in the cellphone market. The Microsoft-Danger baby could be revealed as early as January 2009 at CES.

The Zune phone is the logical result of the dire future of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS for cellphones. Hope this works out. I like the Zune and think it’s a decent alternative to the iPod. If they could replicate their success in the media player market on the handset market, it definitely won’t be the end of the world for Microsoft, but then no one really expects a whole lot of success from Microsoft.

If MS can get the quality of the Zune up, they might have a chance. As it is, the Zune flash and zune 80 are poorly constructed. The flash Zune often suffers from a slanted LCD and the Zune 80 suffers from a wavy front panel and uneven back to front attachment, leaving a ridge poking out from the back cover along the sides. Highly visible in daylight and when any light shines on it.

As it is, the current Zune product is crappy for physical quality. My Zune originals red Zune 80 is history because I attempted to remove the back cover in an effort to bend the right side inward to make it flush with the face. Trying to get the back off, I followed some online instructions and the LCD cracked. Oh well. serves me right for buying a Zune. Before you berate me, the Zune came from the assembly plant rather than a store where it could be returned. The workers know they have you by the balls when you buy one in that manner so they send you the crap instead of retail-store quality product. That’s what anyone has to look forward to when they purchase a Zune from Zune Originals. I will not accept an imperfect product but I had no choice in this matter because of where I received it from. If I had bought it at a local retail store, back to that store in a time warp, it would have gone. And I would have kept returning it over and over again until I received a perfect one.

Other manufacturers provide quality products in this line of products…DAP/PMPs…MS should also provide decent products from their ZO outlet. This bugs me so much I’m temped to go get another Zune and keep returning it. I’ll get even with them for the loss of my $300.

A zune with a phone would be awesome(if you could choose your phone company), the things that I believe that would be good for a zune with phone would be a large amount of Gb for storage and compatability with your computer from your zune, and a sort of worldwide wi-fi internet capability. Oh, and my zune idea would be large gb zunes with prices less than 200 dollars, don’t that sound like Microsoft would make more money with a wide vareity of people buying zunes. Plus, there is a better chance of people being active in the Zune marketplace do things like buying songs, or using the Zune pass which is about 15 dollars a month. and there is my money making idea for Microsoft.
