We already hinted on the possibility of the Sony XPERIAX1 running on Android before, but things just got a little closer to being official as Sony Ericsson has joined the Open Handset Alliance. Likewise, Sony Ericsson spokesman Gustaf Brusewitz was quoted as saying that their first Android-based offering will be belong to the “higher segment” of their collection, and that it will probably be available sometime in the summer of 2009. Given that the XPERIA X1 is definitely part of that “high segment”, one can only assume that it will be offered in an Android variant next year. However, as much as we’d like to believe that, we’re also not closing our doors that a completely new product will be launched in 2009 showcasing the Android OS.
How about you guys? If you had a choice, which Sony Ericsson phone would you like to be fitted with the Android OS?
