Thanks to their desire for a simple web-centric tablet touchscreen PC, the guys at TechCrunch has come out with the CrunchPad. Yup, that’s right. They’ve come out with a product. Since they couldn’t find one in the current market, they’ve decided to just make one. The CrunchPad is currently in prototype phase, but completely works already. It features a 12-inch touchcreen display with a 1024×768 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio, a Via Nano processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB flash drive for the OS and browser cache, WiFi, accelerometer, camera, and a four cell battery. Though it’s not yet commercially available pending on future tweaks and enhancements, they have already suggested that a $299 price wouldn’t be so bad for them as a starting price.
However, with internet only capabilities, I wonder who would be interested in buying one at such a price? Sure, the large touchscreen is a unique feature that provides an unparalleled browsing experience, but are consumers willing to spend close to $300 just for it? I know I wouldn’t, but that’s just me. How about you guys?
