Even if there isn’t any degree of certainty that Apple is working on an iPhone 2,1, there’s already talk of what its firmware now dubbed as iPhone 3.0 will offer. Since the current 3G iPhone still doesn’t come with multitasking and push notification due to the hardware limitations, these two much awaited features are already being speculated to be a major feature in the next iteration of the iPhone. While this surely makes for nice geek talk, it surely doesn’t make it official by any means so we’re still waiting on Apple to come an appropriate announcement. If indeed it is true that an iPhone 2,1 and iPhone 3.0 software is on the way, you can definitely count on the iPhone Dev Team to unleash a whole new set of iPhone 2,1 unlocking and jailbreaking tools for their loyal followers.

There is no hardware limitation for push notifications or multitasking. Apple just simply chose not to include it. Get your facts straight.

@Bob
I actually disagree and think that there IS a hardware limitation. The feature was already implemented, but the battery died too quick. So in order to preserve battery life they stopped multitasking temporarily.
At least that is my take on it.
