Being a newbie in the mobile phone industry, Acer cell phones have got its work cut out for them this 2009. Aside from facing stiff competition from industry giants like Nokia and Samsung, the current global economic crisis will no doubt also play a significant role in consumer spending that could work against Acer. So what’s their game plan amidst these trying times? Well, word is that they’ll be offering their handsets for free when bought with a contract. There’s still no definite US service provider, but AT&T and T-Mobile have both been name-dropped as potential candidates. We’re also not quite sure if it’s going to be one of the Acer M900, F900,X960 or DX900 which will be offered or one of the non-working Acer C1, F1, E1, and L1 units displayed at MWC, but the 4Q is when its expected to hit the US market. If they stay true to this battle plan of offering their handset for free, I have no doubt that they’ll receive a decent following of their own as far as the US market is concerned.
