In a move that will surely please iPhone owners who haven’t made up their mind on whether to get a Kindle 2 or not, Amazon has release the Kindle for iPhone app. It basically provides iPhone owners an e-book reader that allows them to purchase Kindle books, download all previously purchased books, and sync with their Kindle bookmarks. Of course, reading e-books on the small 3.5-inch screen of the iPhone will be less enjoyable than the 6-inch display of the Kindle 2, but at least you won’t have to spend $359 just to get a device that will allow you to purchase and read Kindle-compatible e-books. The Kindle for iPhone app is free to download, and even though the books aren’t, they’re allowing you to view the first chapter of any book free of charge before deciding on whether to purchase it or not.

My biggest concern about the Kindle, aside from it’s weird, book-buring-esque name, is that it compromises the integrity of the written word. A printed book may be unwieldy, but you know that once it’s on your shelf, not one letter is going to change. Can’t say the same for the Kindle.
Also, when I spill coffee all over a book, I’ve only ruined that particular book

StephanieCA,
Understandable skepticism, but to be able to read with one hand and annotate a book without *permanently* ruining it, to be able to carry dozens of classics wherever you go, switch from one book to another before you’ve finished, read a magazine one time then Shakespeare in the next. thon an
