The jury’s still out as to whether the Palm Pre as a device will be a hit or not, but as far as the new webOS is concerned, it’s looking pretty good based on developers’ feedback. It certainly helps that it makes use of JavaScript, HTM and CSS as its core language, and what was a gamble of sorts back then, is now paying off with the positive reaction they’re getting from developers. Christian Sepulveda, Pivotal Labs vice president of business development, best coins what Palm is offering with their new webOS.

“It’s a completely new way of thinking about an OS on mobile devices.”

New way doesn’t necessarily mean everything has to be completely new which is what Palm did with the webOS. The look may be something fresh, but the technology behind it is already tried and tested, and more importantly, familiar to the vast majority of developers. If the early positive feedback is any indication, it looks like Apple’s App Store might have a serious contender here with the Palm Pre and its new webOS.
