Netbooks have been a huge success so far, and the Android OS isn’t doing so bad either, so why not combine both? Well, that’s exactly what Chinese firm SkyTone has done in their latest offerings. The Alpha-680 is a Android running netbook that features a swiveling 7-inch 800×480 WVGA touchscreen display, 128MB DDR2 RAM, 1GB NAND flash, and an ARM 11 533MHz 32bit processor at the helm. The specs seem to be a little bit paltry as compared to other netbooks out now, but remember, this runs on Android and not Windows XP or Vista. On the upside, it does feature WiFi, 3G, Ethernet connectivity, an SD card slot, and a couple of USB ports, and more importantly, a price of just $100. It’s available in pink, yellow, red, black, and white.

More after the break.

If you think SkyTone is alone in this new eandevor to push Android-based netbooks, you’re sadly mistaken. Another company by the name of Pegatron is also set to follow suite with a Freescale-based netbook and an Atom-based one debuting soon. Will this be the new trend in netbooks? This is what we’ll have to wait and see in the next couple of months.

It even looks like a big flat Zune way to fire a shot over Microsofts Windows 7 Bow.

It’s really cool. But $250 with open source OS is expensive. May they should check out the http://laptop.org/en/ program which offers $100 laptop and try to place their product accordingly.
