We all know, it’s onlt that exclusive AT&T deal that’s holding the iPhone back from totally dominating the U.S. mobile market and we all know the Apple phone is not going to be tied to AT&T forever. Nothing lasts but iPhone will keep on going up in the popularity express elevator. So this Verizon iPhone rumors will not become stale until Apple does come out with a CDMA iPhone for the largest wireless carrier in the US.
The latest word comes from USA Today, which claims that sources inside one or both the principal companies confirmed Verizon and Apple are talking of launching for Verizon a CDMA iPhone. The talks are said to be on the highest level and it was during that time Steve Jobs was still at Apple’s helm. AT&T has been enjoying a boom in new sign ups since it launched the iPhone. The company recently reported 1.6 million more subscribers gained from last quarter. Much of this gain will be in danger of a reverse move once a Verizon iPhone materializes.

[...] Verizon iPhone rumors aren’t exactly new, but this latest one suggests that the Verizon-bound iPhone will have a different chip under the hood as opposed to the current models. Ashok Kumar, Northeast Securities analyst who first broke the news that Google will be selling a phone (Nexus One) direct to consumers, strongly believes that Apple is indeed building an iPhone for Verizon bundled with a Qualcomm chip. However, before you let your imaginations run wild with the prospect of a Snapdragon-based iPhone, the rumor goes on to mention that Apple is just opting to get a basic “3G wireless technology chip for EV-DO” connectivity. For comparison’s sake, the current iPhone ships with an Infineon chip. [...]
