Engadget were lucky enough to get a Japanese trial unit of the touchscreen Sony Walkman, the NWZ-X1000. The UI is really good and the OLED screen is even better than the COWON S9 (video), though the X1000 boast a lower-rez 3-inch screen (but that’s probably subjective). Video playback, though, has uffered a demotion in resolution, this Walkman supporting only 320 x 240 for some reason. The hardware is great just like everything Sony has made. Remember that the Walkman X1000 has WiFi. You’ll miss very little with this PMP (there’s even an app for Skype calling!).
It looks like Sony has a touchscreen Walkman with WiFi connectivity that is sure to deserve everyone’s consideration. If you’re looking for a WiFi PMP with high capacity for about $400, the X1000 should be top of your list.
