Well, what do you know, it looks like the iPhone might actually become available in China after all. After making a brief appearance on Unicom’s website and failing to meet its supposed launch date, we’re now hearing that Apple and China’s second largest mobile carrier has “most likely” signed an agreement based on a report from Reuters. Of course, “most likely” is still different from “officially”, but that’s as close as it gets to being official at the moment. The reported deal indicates that the iPhone will be launched on October 1 and is for a span of 2-years. The exact model of the iPhone wasn’t mentioned, but since it’ll be happening later this year, it’s probably not too much too expect for it to be the new iPhone 3G S.
Anyway, everything still needs to be confirmed, but if true, we’ll finally see how the Apple iPhone can truly stack up against the iPhone clones in China. Hopefully, Unicom won’t suffer the same fate as the carriers in Russia.
