The wait is finally over! The iPhone Dev Team has just released redsnow, a jailbreak and unlock (orig iPhone only) that works not only on the iPhone 3G and 1G iPod Touch, but more importantly, on the 2G iPod Touch as well. It works similar to QuickPwn so the whole process should be pretty easy. However, the current version doesn’t work on Mac OS X systems still running on PPC. Likewise, all the precautions mentioned in the iPhone 3.0 jailbreak should be taken, and this doesn’t work on the iPhone 3G S as well. Apart from that, there have also been quite a number of complaints and problems being reported in the comments section.
Needless to say, worry-warts out there will have to probably wait for a newer version to be released before trying this one out on their Apple device. Nonetheless, if you’re brave enough to give this new jailbreak a go, then by all means, download redsnow from their blog now and don’t forget to hit us up in the comments section below as we’d love to hear how it turns out for you.

Redsnow worked perfectly on my iPhone with 3.0. I have jailbreaked before but this by far was the easiest and worked so quickly without any problems!

Installed it on a Touch 3.0 and it worked flawlessly, until I tried using Cidia and nothing would download properly. It saiD something about a “dependency cycle”. Please respond if you know what the hell is going on!!!

Alex, I experienced the same thing. The problem was caused by selecting ‘Icy’ during the jailbreak. Try jailbreaking again with that option unselected.
This is the first time I’ve jailbroken my iPod Touch 2G. The whole OS feels sluggish and I experience Springboard crashes. I guess that’s the price for cutting-edge? Back to stock OS.

WARNING WARNING my 2G Battery drains in less than 1 day!!! phone is very hot when it’s plugged into charging cradle even when it is not charging. this is awful. Anyone know what the solution is. is it the 3.0 firmware or redsnow itself? if I revert too 2.2 will this go away?
