Excited over the news of an Apple tablet netbook being released this year? Well, here’s the latest on the continuously developing rumor regarding Apple’s unnamed new touchscreen-equipped portable computer.

Word is that Verizon will be launching an Apple tablet computer later this year. The specs include a 9- to 10-inch touchscreen display which is inline with our recent Macbook Nano Touch update. Apart from that, we also hear that it will look like a larger version of the iPhone. However, unlike the iPhone which is exclusive to AT&T, Verizon will only be the first to offer up this Apple tablet in the US, but will also be made available later on through other vendors and possible other carriers as well. It will be subsidized by Verizon, but it probably won’t be much since this is, after all, a data-only device.
That’s about it for now, but rest assured, we’ll report more on this matter once additional info is made available.

I’m guessing it will be quite a bit smaller than the rumoured 9 or 10 inches… Could be more like 4.5 to 5 inches (diagonal) where the display nearly fills the surface instead of wasting space on each side of the display like the iPhone. A few years ago, a third party lab showed prototypes of this kind of device at CTIA conferences, and it was quite impressive — still pocketsize, but fantastic Web access.
