China Mobile OPhones to rival China Unicom’s iPhone 3G

China Mobile OPhone launch

The OPhone platform or OMS is no secret anymore, and while we’ve already seen a couple of handset touting this Android-modified China-brew mobile OS such as the Dell Mini 3i and Lenovo 01, there were actually a bunch of other goodies that were unveiled by China Mobile that will also run on this new system. The new touchscreen handsets were basically grouped by connectivity: TD-SCDMA (otherwise known as China 3G) and the less speedy EDGE.

The Lenovo 01 heads the TD-SCDMA group and supported by the LG GW880, a Hisense phone (name and specs yet to be known), and a Philips handset (name and specs yet to be known). The LG GW880 comes with a .2-inch 800×480 display and also boasts of CMMB/MBBMS mobile TV as well.

The EDGE group is spearheaded by the Dell Mini 3i. You can also find here the Lenovo 01e, Dopod A6188, and Philips V900. The Lenovo 01e is the 3-megapixel EDGE only version of the Lenovo 01, while the Dopod A6488, as you can tell in the picture, is basically the HTC Magic sans 3G connectivity. Last, but not the least, the Philips 900 features a 3.5-inch display, Bluetooth, WAPI, and GPS encased in a full metal body.

With this new fleet of touchscreen phones and a very capable mobile OS in tow, China Unicom and its iPhone 3G definitely has its work cut out for them as they attempt to conquer the Chinese market.
