Firmware, Mobile Phone

palm-webos12-led-notificationsThe Palm Pre has barely made its way out of the US, but that doesn’t mean a webOS update won’t be released anytime soon. In fact, webOS 1.2 has been one of the hot topics on the internet lately as it was accidentally leaked to the public, and based on what we’ve heard so far, it’s quite a treat worth looking forward to. It comes with improved browser functionality, a new ‘select all’ option in the edit menu, find-as-you-type support in email, support for paid apps, and also features LED notifications. That last bit is the most interesting one of all as it will allow the gesture area to blink once new notifications are received. However, there’s also the not-so-good part. A remote application removal feature is also being reported in this new webOS firmware which will, in effect, allows Palm to remove apps from the App Catalog and, more disturbingly, your device as well. A refund, in turn, will be issued if you paid for the said app. Not that excited anymore?

Well, the good news is webOS 1.2 isn’t officially available to the public yet so there’s a chance that it could still change before hitting the market. Let’s just hope the good stuff remains and that one big drawback gets booted out once its released.
