The new 5G iPod Nano and 3rd gen iPod Touch bannered most of the headlines today, but another big story is the new Palm webOS-powered phone that’s now official and headed for Sprint.

Dubbed as the Palm Pixi, this is actually one and the same as the leaked Palm Eos supposedly debuting on AT&T. The Palm Pixi comes with 2.63-inch 320×400 capacitive touchscreen display, 2-megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR support, GPS, 3.5mm jack, dual-band CDMA2000, EV-DO Rev. A connectivity, and 8GB internal memory. It’s also pretty slim as it measures only 0.43-inches in thickness.

More details and videos after the break.
Synergy now also comes with Yahoo! Messenger and LinkedIn support, and a new native Facebook app will also been available once the Pixi is released into the market. Here’s a video if the Facebook app live in action:
Noticeably absent is WiFi connectivity, but the good news here is that it shouldn’t be that expensive either. Speculation is that, with the Palm Pre now retailing for just $149.99 on a 3-yr contract, the Palm Pixi could be sold for less than $100 on-contract. If this is true, then the Pixi definitely has what it takes to bring Palm back into competitive form. No word, though, on when it will exactly be released, but it should be available in time for the holidays.

WOW!! I’m a Palm user and I’ve been waiting for something new. I’ve used past models Treo 700 and Centro. Both worked great. But once you have a smart-phone its hard to swich back because nothing will compare to you smart-phone. I’m really looking forward to the Pixi.
