Having problems making the blackra1n iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak work on your brand spanking new iPhone 3 S? Well, it seems we’ve found the culprit. It’s just been confirmed that new iPhone 3G S units are shipping with a new bootrom dubbed as iBoot-359.3.2 that’s now jailbreak-proof.

For those not familiar with the whole jailbreaking process, both the iPhone Dev Team and Geohot use the 24kpwn exploit in the iPhone’s bootrom. Many feared it would be patched up in iPhone 3.0, but fortunately, it wasn’t. Now, Apple finally found the time to plug this hole up making new iPhone 3G S units immune to any of the jailbreaks currently available. Of course, it will only be a matter of time before an appropriate jailbreak for this new bootrom is cooked up, but this is definitely bad news for affected iPhone 3G S owners as it will surely take longer for one to be released to the public.

I actually just learned about jailbreaking about to months ago. It’s amazing, yet sad at the same time.

[...] As usual, this PwnageTool is only available for the Mac OS X. Windows users will just have to content themselves with blackra1n or you can ask their Mac using jailbreaking buddies for a custom IPSW file which you can use to restore their iPhone/iPod Touch to. And no, we highly doubt this will work on the new iPhone 3G S bootrom. [...]

Well, I guess I just survive running on 3.0 then until someone figures it out. Apple really bugs me, what I do with my phone after I buy it is my business.
Tell me, I pay $30,000 for a brand new car, but I can go down to any detail shop, have the engine ripped out or retooled, I can repaint it, I can add a stereo, and can put bigger tires, different wheels, and trick it out anyway I want.
So how is it LEGAL for Apple to purposefully block my ability to trick out my phone. I just don’t get it.

What if they subsidised your car for $15,000 on the understanding you only used Shell gas stations? It would seem fair to put something in the car that detected you filling up somewhere else.

Paul you make a valid point. But Furious still has a strong argument.
This jailbreak resistant bootrom will be put on all new 3Gs iphones subsidized or not.
Meaning if I pay full price for my brand new $30,000 car, there should be no need to “put something in the car that detected you (me) filling up somewhere else.”

Apple is not subsidizing your phone, AT&T is. AT&T locks you to their network to make their moneys worth. Tricking out the software my phone runs is still exactly the same as tricking out my cars engine.
Now if your jailbreaking so you can run your phone on T-mobile, then yeah, AT&T has a point.
