Admittedly, most of the iPhone jailbreak efforts and hacks these days are focused on the new iPhone. As a consequence, those who are still using the first generation iPhone (aka 2G iPhone) are left in the dark since their phone still doesn’t support MMS even if iPhone 3.0 software is already installed on it. Well, that’s about to change though as iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd has revealed a baseband hack called Whiterat that allows MMS to work on a 2G iPhone that’s running on iPhone firmware 3.1.2. He also divulged another baseband hack named two-bit which will be of special interest for those on AT&T who want to enable internet tethering on their iPhone before it’s officially supported by their carrier. A word of caution – these hacks are pretty hardcore and definitely more technical than the current jailbreak/iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak PwnageTool with no guarantees that it will work the same way a 100% of the time for everyone.
