Geohot followers rejoice as your ever reliable hacker has just unleashed his latest iPhone offerings: the blacksn0w iPhone unlock and blackra1n RC3 iPhone jailbreak.
The great thing about blacksn0w is that it works on the new 05.11.07 baseband bundled with iPhone 3.1.2 firmware which the iPhone Dev Team has still yet to crack. For those who already have a jailbroken iPhone, just add blackra1n.com as a repo in Cydia to get some blacksn0w goodness. Once unlocked and you want to enable tethering, you can head on over here using your iPhone to select your carrier so that an appropriate MobileConfig file will be sent to your iPhone. Blackra1n RC3, for its part, is an improved version of his blackra1n iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak which still works on both Windows and Mac systems.

I just realized he works for Apple, hence the break apart. I just ran BlackRain and the first thing it does is download your phone statistics and presumable collects/emails them.

Worked like a charm, but not without challenges. I have iPhone 3G
1. Restore in itunes using custom ipsw. This went smoothly.
2. Jailbreak using redsn0w. This was a challenge as I couldn’t get into DFU mode. Tried till my fingers almost blistered.
3. Solution, used blackra1n, made it ra1n. This didn’t jailbreak the phone and it hang. But when I tried redsn0w agin, it went straight into DFU mode, and the running pineapple man appeared. This brought temporary joy. After jailbreaking, my phone hang on the apple logo. Tried hard restart about ten times, didnt work. So I jailbroke it again and again and then voila, it was jailbrocken.
4. Then unlocked in cydia after adding blackra1n repo. This again didn’t work. I then installed Sn0w in the blackra1n app. Service restored, and WiFi working perfectly as well.
NB: I didn’t bother to install rock as I believe it may be causing the Wifi issues. And wont use Push Fix either coz I don’t want to receive other peoples push notifications.
