Google Android, Mobile Phone

Just as promised in the teaser video, Sony Ericsson today launched their first Android offering, the XPERIA X10. Prior reports called this touchscreen beauty the Rachael and XPERIA X3, but now that it’s official, everyone can call it the XPERIA X10.

Aside from its 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4-inch scratch-resistant touchscreen, 8.1-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS, it will also come with variety of imaging features including intelligent face recognition, image stabilization, touch focus, geotagging and smile detection, a WebKit web browser, 3.5mm jack, and 1GB memory. The XPERIA X10 does lack a flash though and only runs on Android 1.6, but will come with their new UX interface which was previewed in video a couple of months back.

They’re also introducing two new apps with the X10: Mediascape and Timescape. Mediascape is the media UI which was the center of attention two days ago. It helps you see all your media files in a single glance and also accesses content located on YouTube and PlayNow. Timescape, meanwhile, is their version of MotoBlur. It integrates all your communications with a person, whether through Facebook, Twitter, email, or text, into one seamless interface.

Here’s a promotional video of the XPERIA X10:

Sony Ericsson announced that it will be available in the first quarter of 2010 though falling short of revealing its retail price. It was likewise disclosed that the XPERIA X10 is just the first in a whole new family of mobile phones slated to debut next year. Needless to say, Sony Ericsson is now officially hooked on the Android fever.
