Even though many critics and tech journalists (us included) think the Droid has what it takes (and more) to kill the iPhone, consumers do not quite agree. Friday was Droid day and Droid simply Doesn’t sell, based on the turn out. In major cities across the U.S., there have been reports of dozens of people queuing for the Motorola Droid. the best lines are in New York City store wherein about a hundred lined up.
Verizon’s spin–”Long lines forming outside are flashy,” Verizon spokesman David Samberg said. “But it’s not really the goal. What we really want to see is this: a steady stream of people coming today and for the next few weeks buying new phones.”
The report over CNET had one commenter adding, “One reason for shorter lines is because the Droid is available at Bestbuy as well and perhaps other stores, I’ve heard Sears and Walmart also. I don’t think the iPhone was available anywhere else other than the stores and perhaps preorder directly from ATT site.”
But then, photos don’t lie…

Okay…so how does this article prove that Droid isn’t an iPhone killer?

It not only shows that the Droid is not an iPhone “Killer”, it also shows that many of the self-appointed tech-gurus are hopelessly out of touch with the majority of consumers, who simply refuse to buy stuff just because it delights the nerdy crowd.

Another example of shallow, knee-jerk reportage from an obscure website
that hopes to gain attention via sensational, meaningless headlines.
Had Apple offered the iPhone via pre-order - as Verizon & Best Buy did
with the Droid - then maybe we could make a valid comparison. Further,
Apple’s new models are often announced six months in advance. Compare
that with a lousy 30 days of publicity, for this new Motorola handset.
Hey, kids, here’s an idea: try reporting on _real_ stories. Like, maybe
the recent news from China where Huawei says they sold a surprising 100K
of their self-made Android phones while Unicom reported lackluster sales
of only 5K iPhones…approx. 87% below their already low expectations.:

Hmmmmm I think the iPhone 3GS was available for preorder over Apple.com. I’m pretty surre the iPhone was also available at wal mart and best buy where I live in California. New Iphones don’t get announced until like 1 month before launch day, people just speculate on the new iPhone coming put in the summer and apple dosent even make advertisements for their new Phones and still sell 3 milllion Iphones on opening weekend. So the droid will be put on a long list of Iphone “killers” that failed to live up to the hype, even if the droid is a great phone like the Pre and Storm2.
P.S. I have used the droid and it is a great phone

hi,iphone killer is just hype,it helps to keep the iphone in the news when new phones launch, otherwise we would be just talking about the new phones, but then i suppose thats what makes the world go round, and America are quite rightly proud of the iphone it is a great phone. It would be nice though if reports could be just alittle less spin, nothing is going to kill the iphone its avery good smartphone(not a wolf in the woods)but there are better smartphones for differant uses there are better camera phones for example, and a physical key board is also better for some.It does get boring if the only thing talked about is this mythical iphone killer .

Awwwww…….listen to da poor widdle Droid fanboys upset that somebody dare not lavish their “iPhone killer” with love! Lol! This phone will be another in a growing list of iPhone killers gone by the wayside…..

One thing to consider is the economy. When the iPhone first went on sale, the economy wasn’t nearly as bad. Currently, nobody has any money to part with. I’d love to have a Droid and would be one of those in line. Unfortunately I am in a budgetary crisis.

Droid’s pretty awesome but it’s not going to sell a million in 30 days. I would be surprised if Motorola has a million Droids shipped.
November 7th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
The Droid and the Cliq, both, are better than the iPhone. They have much more functionality and are more powerful. The both have a better keyboard…hardware keyboard.
If given the choice between the Droid, Cliq or iPhone, I’d jump all over the Cliq or Droid.

Some people just don’t get it. It’s never been about “specs” with the iPhone. Phones have always had better specs. Check the Palm Pre, which if u compare the two has better specs than the iPhone. But it’s a combination of elegant design, great UI, ease of use, killer apps, and seamless intergration with iTunes and these are the areas that the iPhone simply cannot be beat. And these are the things that most consumers, with the exception of techies and reviewers, care about the most.

Last I checked, phones were judged by features…not sales. The iPhone was first of it’s kind and iconic at that. However, the Droid is equal if not superior to the iPhone. This device has been out for a week, its a little premature to call it a failure. By the end of 4th quarter, lets see what phones will be the last two standing.

I really like the design of the Motorola Droid. Got mine about 2 days ago.
Love the alarm clock feature with the dock station. Hope they make a new version without the keyboard so it can be thinner. The digital keyboard is good enoug for me.
Navigation is really fast thanks to Android 2.0. Typing is kinda hard on the keyboard because of the 4 way navigation pad that is in the way.
Nah, whatever I think the Droid is awesome and can easily take the iPhone.
