Motorola may not have been very competitive in the past couple of years, but they did manage to come out with a hit product this year in the form of the Motorola Droid which I personally believe is the best smartphone for 2009.

With a decently-sized 3.7-inch touchscreen, 5-megapixel AF camera with dual-LED flash, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a speedy Arm Cortex A8 processor running under the hood all packed in a slim 13.7mm thin body, the Motorola Droid strikes the right balance between style and function.
Sure, there will be comparisons made between this Android offering of Motorola and the iPhone, but one serious drawback to Apple’s mobile phone is its lack of a physical QWERTY keypad. The Droid has the best of both worlds, a touchscreen and QWERTY keypad, which makes it appealing to a more people. How about BlackBerry phones then? RIM smartphones have been the top choice of business folk, but with the company still banking on an aging BlackBerry OS, the Android platform is definitely the way of the future. Google, in general, is a very aggressive company and they’re certainly not resting on their laurels with Android churning out updates one after the other as they try to perfect their mobile OS offering. Apart from being an open OS, this dedication is what makes Android extra special and appealing to consumers.
Bundled Android with the perfect hardware combination, then you’ve got one heck of a phone, and that’s exactly what the Motorola Droid is. Of course, this just my opinion so how about you guys? Which phone do you think deserves the best smartphone recognition for 2009?

Stephen, Dell? We’re talking about the Motorola Droid being the best smartphone of 2009. It’s saying a lot, though, from us, given that a lot of Android smartphones have come out, as well as the Palm Pre and Xperia.

[...] Remember though that iPhone 2,1 became the iPhone 3G S, which is the same phone but with a faster processor. My thinking if iPhone rumor mongers are going to be fed with nothing more than the idea of iPhone 3,1 with no leaks of hardware shots or anything that qualifies as significant change for the iPhone (OLED screen, mobile TV, matte finish or the like) I’d rather spend my time looking out for the next Super Android Phone. Bought the Droid Nov 6, 2009 would give it back in a heart beat for an I Phone on the verizon network. Iwill not give up my apple I touch applacations nor the verizon network. I hate the camera clairty on the droid and android market place is nowhere close to apples education applacatons for toddlers. Droid is also more complicated to use. I do like the voice search feature. However I revert to my I touch and camera for everything but calls.

The Motorola Droid could have been the phone of 2009 but unless you are just looking for a neat toy it fell flat on it face in the business market.
1. No desktop sync with exchange.
2. No support for cisco VPN to sync with exchange.
3. Mediocre ability to work with exchange if you work for a company with a weaker network that just uses standard vpn.
Mines going back under the verzion 30 day policy unless there is a miracle in the 12/11 update.
