We’ve heard of iPhone worms in the past, but according to this latest report by the BBC, this is the first one that’s malicious and poses a serious threat to iPhone users. Similar to the Rick Astley iPhone worm (also referred to as ikeex) and iPhone/Privacy.A worm, this new iPhone virus works on the same principle and takes advantage of jailbroken iPhones with SSH installed on it. However, unlike those two, this one is more serious as it allows hackers to remotely access and control the iPhone. Mikko Hypponen, F-Secure research director, had this to say about this latest discovery:

It’s the second iPhone worm ever and the first that’s clearly malicious – there’s a clear financial motive behind it.

The good thing here is that it’s currently limited to the Netherlands only. Be that as it may, I’m pretty sure Apple will be quick to take notice of this latest news bit and use it to discourage users from using the iPhone 3.12 jailbreak PwnageTool, blackra1n, and other similar tools of the iPhone jailbreak trade.
