It could be the end of AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity, the beginning of the Verizon iPhone and the first smartphone in the U.S. to operate on 4G mobile broadband standard, first CDMA iPhone. I’m talking of course about iPhone 4G.
“My sources have confirmed that Apple and Verizon have been testing a iPhone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.”*
The new information we’ve receives seems to be a part of an ever growing and ultimately hazy rumor of a new iPhone 3,1 or iPhone 4G. We’ve already suggested that the only iPhone 4G we’d care about would come with a different hardware design, so the next technology in mobile broadband speeds (LTE mobile communication systems) and an iPhone handset supporting it would not strike us as hype-worthy news if Apple insists on the same old hardware, even if a Verizon iPhone sells a million more iphones a month. But an earlier rumor of an Apple Tablet possibly coming out Verizon and operating on the company’s LTE network would definitely qualify as hype-worthy. Read this Engadget post. So an Apple LTE Device designated as iPhone 3,1?
Here’s what we’d love to hear in the next few months:
- iPhone 4G (new hardware, new design, new feel iPhone)
- Verizon iPhone with significantly distinct design from the iPhone at AT&T
- Announcement of an Apple LTE device and availability of streaming content possibly from Verizon though an iTunes streaming store and mobile TV, though difficult to imagine, would certainly make our day.
- Apple tablet or iTablet

First you state “My sources have confirmed that Apple and Verizon have been testing a iPhone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.” Then you state “The new information we’ve receives seems to be a part of an ever growing and ultimately hazy rumor of a new iPhone 3,1 or iPhone 4G.” This does not make any sense - what did you confirm? A “hazy rumor”? Not to mention that there are a dozen articles out today discussing how T-Mobile may get the iPhone and Apple will shun Verizon. Does Verizon pay you to create unsubstantiated and “hazy” Verizon/iPhone hype?

iTablet - VoIP + Keyboard + touchscreen. It won’t be an “iPhone,” which would breach the exclusivity contract w/ AT&T and also since Apple launched, “Can your network do phone calls and Internet at the same time?” advertisements, this fits in nicely, while secretly in bed with the enemy (Verizon) yet adds to their market.

That’s good that they’re making a iPhone 4G. I hope that apple does make a CDMA and gsm dual compatibale phone. If ts only CDMA I hope it fails in making sales big time but that probably won’t happen lol. I hope they do make a gsm variant iPhone 4g though.

The first smartphone runing 4g in the US!!! are you joking??????????????
Sprint already has 4G and a bunch of smart phones.
No other carrier has 4g as of today.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Sprint has limited 4G coverage. Look at the coverage map. Its only available in few major metro areas such as New York City. Not much to brag about when you leave the rest of the country on your old cell network. Being the first at providing the service isnt worth mentioning if only a small percentage of your customers can take advantage of the service. The only company that brags about the service and backs it up with a beefed up cell network is Verizon. AT&T is worthless.

720p or 1080p video recording
5.0 megapixel camera with flash and a much much bigger lens so that it actually takes decent photos even in very low light situations
Backlit OLED screen with 640 x 480 resolution
Dual Core Snap Dragon 1.5 Ghz HD Capable Processor
4G capable
wifi N
bluetooth+
Not as much real estate wasted on the front of the phone as current iPhones (the black part on the top and bottom of the iphone need to be much smaller, basically, almost all of the front of the phone should be the screen.)
hd tv tuner (there are constantly hd tv signals being broadcast by ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. Why not let us tap into those signals so that we can what hdtv on our phones wherever we are)
hd radio tuner
Front facing camera so that we could make videocalls, atleast while connected to wifi
flash support (I want to access hulu from my iphone damn it!)
RFID chip
IR chip (so that you can use it as a universal remote)
over the air sync with Macs, Apple TV, pc servers etc
louder dual speaker (i’m sick of accidently covering up the speaker while playing games)
Avail. for T-mobile, Verizon & AT&T
A sexy looking gamepad addon that adds dual analog sticks and dual triggers to the iPhone so that gaming on the iPhone actually becomes FUN.
