Straight out of Taiwan, the enTourage eDGe hybrid netbook and eReader now has a working prototype to show off to the public. Officially dubbed “dualbook,” the tasty specs include a 9.7-inch 1200 x 825 e-Ink touch screen.
This big screen makes reading e-books much easier than on smaller screens, reducing the number of page turns. It includes the advantages of other e-readers, with zooming capability, a glare-free screen, and the ability to read in sunlight. The enTourage eDGe™ e-reader uses e-Ink® technology, which lets you take notes right on the book you’re reading. You can open a journal page, enter drawings with the stylus or text — either by hand or using the virtual keyboard. Then it lets you save your notes and journals to the enTourage eDGe™, to a server, or email them to your friends or classmates. The enTourage eDGe™ can read both ePub files and PDFs.
There’s also a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 color touchscreen. There’s a video-recording camera as well, and connectivity via WiFi, 3G (eVDo or HSDPA) and Bluetooth. It’s an eBook and a touchscreen netbook tablet for under 3 pounds. No final word on the processor the enTourage eDGe. But you can probably imagine it will be a low-power processor stretching battery life to 16 hours at a single charge.
