October seems to have been a pretty good month for handset makers, but it was especially sweet for Apple and their iPhone as it’s the groundbreaking month when they’ve finally been able to overtake Microsoft and Windows Mobile in the mobile OS battle in the US.

Yup, that’s right folks. Apparently, despite the impressive sales of the iPhone in the previous quarters, it was only last October when Apple’s beloved mobile phone was able to eclipse Windows Mobile devices in the US. Google and their Android platform seem to still be struggling compared to the rest, but we’re pretty sure things will pick up for them in 2010 once the invasion of new Android phones hit the country. Symbian, likewise, is at the bottom half of the bunch despite being the top dog in the international market. RIM, on the other hand, is the clear standout though we doubt that the BlackBerry Storm 2 had any significant contribution to their stellar performance.
Will the iPhone continue its rise to the top and eventually beat RIM? It’s highly unlikely, but anything’s possible. What we’re sure of though is that it’ll be a whole new ball game come 2010 between Microsoft/Windows Mobile and Apple/iPhone when Windows Mobile 7 is officially launched and the 4G iPhone is finally released.

So the assumption is that Android and WebOS will grow at Microsoft’s expense while having no impact on Apple?

Windows Mobile is a dead platform. As it sheds market share, those former users are picked up by all the other platforms. The best advice is to avoid buying a Windows Phone, as the platform will be discontinued. Android and iPhone are both growing, and are much nicer phones.

Bloody Hell…MS needs to act & act fast. They seriously need to come up with their own phone & make Windows Mobile more open to gain back market share.
THIS IS A BLACK SPOT ON MS. Come on MS fight BACK!!!
Come up with a Zune Phone or something. REACT ASAP wake up MS we don’t need JOBS MOB to dominate the mobile spectrum. Dominate mobile like you dominate desktop MS!
GO MICROSOFT!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
