We’ve seen how the iPhone has wreaked havoc on AT&T’s unprepared network, and now, the new iPhone 3G S is doing the same thing across the Atlantic over in the UK with O2.

However, unlike AT&T, O2 isn’t beating around the bush and facing this problem head on. Ronan Dunne, O2 CEO, has apologized publicly for the outages and, to address the issue, has ordered the installation of 200 additional mobile base stations in London to meet the high data traffic. We like their responsiveness, but wouldn’t it have been better if they were prepared right from the get go?
Verizon in the US, for their part, has bravely gone on record saying that they’re prepared for the high data traffic of the iPhone. We’d like to believe that, but I guess only time will tell if they too will buckle under the pressure of the iPhone or will stand tall amidst the challenge and prove that they are indeed the better network.

Hi Guy’s,
I’d love an iPhone, but enough anecdata from friends suggests that it’s better to wait until the networks open up. I’ve used O2 before and didn’t have the best experience - besides, there’s zero O2 coverage where I live. What’s the point in a snazzy phone if you can’t get a signal.
