It’s official at last, the Apple Tablet, officially the Apple iPad, a 9.7-inch IPS (screen professional graphic artists like) touchscreen that is only half an inch thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. Priced at $499, $599 and $699 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and powered by Apple’s own P.A. Semi 1GHz chip also dubbed as “Apple A4.” You can have a 3G version for another $130 and an AT&T plan starting at $14.99 and $29.99 for the unlimited. Are there two cameras: one in the back and one in front?… Well, a big NO to iConferencing. They already have an SDK to be released as soon as today for the iPad, but it can already run all iPhone Apps without modification. The Apple iPad will be available in 2 months and the 3G version in 90 days.
Apple iBook is an eReader App for the iPad. Though the iPad obviously isn’t in the same league as E-Ink readers like the Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook, Penguin, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, MacMillan and Hachette are already on board. Prices begin at $12.99 for a book.
The Apple iPad battery lasts 10 hours. The design is squarish for a reason as you can hold it anywhere, the display will follow with the built-in accelerometer. It has WiFi n, Bluetooth, speaker, mic, 30-pin connector and a compass. It’s very fast, includes Google maps and supports 1080p videos and a new iTunes music player will be featured on the device. The New York Times has an iPad-ready version already available. The virtual keyboard is supposed to be very user-friendly though I only see photos of one-hand, one-finger typists.
Well, I’m a little bit disappointed as the Apple iPad is obviously a little too difficult to carry along with you everywhere. The iBookstore looks fantastic but for book prices are only a little cheaper than hard cover books and pricier than paperbacks. But I’m amazed at Apple’s boldness in taking on the Kindle et. al. market. I’m interested in seeing how the Apple iPad makes it in this non-existent market Steve Jobs dropped it in. Any ideas?

I dont’ get it. Why is it revolutionary? All it is, is an ipod touch with bigger screen. I’m an avid fan of Apple products but this is seriously disappionting. I even hit refresh on my browser every few seconds to see what people were saying. I was disappointed the second I saw the picture of it. It seems unsatisfying and I can’t pinpoint it. Most Apple products, I look at it ang go wow, but this I look at it and go ummm…i don’t know. I’d rather stick to an iphone if you already have one. $40+ for internet at home(can’t live without it. gotta power my ps3 and so on), $30 for my iphone data plan, and then $30 for this? No. No way. Now if the let me share my iphone plan with the ipad maybe…maybe i’d get it just for the sake of it being made by apple. Apple TV didn’t make sense…put this in the same catagory.

dipesh,
I also wonder how much R&D they spent on this. It doesn’t look like Apple spent more than 3 months brainstorming. You can also go to the post after this one for my opinion on why Apple should’ve announced a netbook, not the iPad.

People who find the iPad “disappointing” are the same people who find fault with EVERYTHING and will never be satisfied no matter what. End of story.

Well, one thing kindle&Co arent capable of is color. This gives the ipad the opportunity being the first to establish a market for magazine readers (unique feature so far). On top of that, kindle&co didnt conquer yet the whole market, giving apple possibility to join the club.
On the other hand, it might be indeed a good alternative for netbooks (which are to small for regular work as single computer, and inefficient regarding space and bulkiness compared to the ipad for mobile use).

Well’, it’s definitely NOT revolutionary !
Nowadays they’re speaking of low consumption, extra-long battery life…
The OLED revolution is coming, made of new flexible screens with high contrast,
high resolution and many days of battery life (as for new ASUS devices).
Two months waiting for a device which collapses a traditional portable PC
into a 10″ x 1.5 cm net-book size?
Also accounting for the closed architecture of the iPhone (= a lot of applications
to buy), that’s no gain.
It’s for people addicted to the brand, the style, the last fashion gadget…
When they’ll present a light, smart, open-architecture, 5 days lasting tablet PC, then will be a new concept!

this headline and the responses I’ve read thus far are a joke. half of these post simply state how the ipad dissapoints but lack reason. as Vivian stated, these are the people who will find fault in any and everything and will never be satisfied. try this, stop defragging and wiping viruses, pick up a mac and develope a little vision in your pc clustered heads. ipad was not made nor marketed to replace a laptop or a pc. it’s simply a device intended for doing things outside of the workplace. no multitasking, no camera, no SMS. it’s not a phone either. genius move when your apple and you have the best phone in the world. dissapoints if your Microsoft because like every Microsoft product, it tries to do too much and fails users consistently. why not make a product that can utilize a user friendly interface and has 12 billion downloads? apple created this new market that make “apps” available in a simple and business (in a sofware developers mind) friendly competitive world. why not use it? look I have an iPhone (which this was typed on) and I have an iMac. where does the ipad fit in? if you’ve seen anything about why the ipad was made and how it’s being marketed then you have the vision to know the answer to that. for me it’s a product that fills in between the two, it will act as a laptopish device that will be the best at the 7 things we most frequently do on a mobile device: ebooks, browsing, photos, music, movies, games and innovative apps. nuff said (for now)

@briown I’m sorry that sounds llike complete rubbish and miserable fanboy talk!
I have no great love for either MS or Apple, I dont even know why you start going on about Microsoft, which is boring and nothing to do with this post post anyway.
I cant see any reason I would want an ipad.
I can t see why it’s in any way revolutionary.
You say it “will be the best at the 7 things we most frequently do on a mobile device”, well:
- it’s not going to be the best for games, what planet are you on?
- I dont see what features make it better at email, movies, music. I think they’ve sucked you in there.
- Best at innovative apps? That sounds like something you just made up.
I have an iphone which does all this stuff for me while I’m on the move. If I’m not on the move I have my laptop. Why would I need this toy?

Hello briown.
You missed ‘making calls’ form your list of 7 things people most fequently do with a mobile device.
Its the whole point of owning a mobile device. If the iphone didnt make calls nobody would own one.
Ipad is hilarious. what a load of old turnip.
