China MP4, China PMP

You’re hearing it first from Ainol, a China company that’s been quite popular here at PMP Today: the first 1280p support on a portable player. That’s the best resolution we’ve ever heard of in wide distribution. Would it make a difference on the Ainol V8000HDV 4.3-inch 800 x 480 screen? Probably not, but with HDMI out, you can play this on a proper 1280p HD LCD screen. The V8000HDV itself gives you 16GB of flash storage to use. It will play TS, AVI, MP4, MPG, MKV, PSP, DAT, VOB, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, MOV, M2V, QT, M2A videos and the AVI, RMVB videos will have SRT subtitles support.

A 1280p PMP for only $144 at the link below.

Update: anyone can confirm, a 1280p resolution exists? Please leave a comment below. I went to the mall yesterday looking for an LCD with 1280p resolution. A quick Google search suggests 1080p is sometimes wrongly written as 1280p.

Hey, 1280p doesn’t really exist. Perhaps they mean that it can go past 1080p resolution. However it could just be nonsense advertising that the Chinese KIRF companies sometimes use.

    Hi Guy’s,
it wouldn’t make all that much difference on the device’s 4.3-inch 800 x 480 screen, but thanks to the magic of HDMI-output, you can play the video on a HD LCD display that supports 1280p.

I don’t believe that 1280P screens are available, but there are screens with 1920×1200 resolution that are used primarily as computer monintors with 16:10 aspect ratios. This would presumably allow the SoChip9800 based pmps to display native content or otherwise scale content to a 16:10 aspect ration for a 1920×1200 screen. Not sure what the extra 80 lines of vertical resolution is intended to do. :)

Well when they say 1280P they could actually mean 1280×720 which would be 720P :P, another resolution it could use, could be 1280×800 which is Wide XGA. Any resolution is possible to display, a 1280 is how many pixels it is wide and 720 is how many pixels it is tall. You can have a display that is 50000×720 it would just look extremely odd, :D. Its all explaned here, in this Wikipedia article on display standards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_display_standard
