Sony Plans to Make an iPad Competitor

Nothing official yet, but it seems that Sony fancies the all-touch iPad formfactor for their next portable gaming device. According to Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony’s CFO, “[The Apple iPad] is a market we are also very interested in. We are confident we have the skills to create a product.” He also added that “Time-wise we are a little behind the iPad but it’s a space we would like to be an active player in.”

The Apple iPad may have underwhelmed a lot of industry observers, but if Sony thinks it will have a market then you most certainly will be looking at a new market segment for multimedia and gaming with the iPad as its paragon.
